Bond Shymansky

Bond Shymansky arrives at Marquette University after serving for each of the previous seven seasons as head coach at Georgia Tech.

Under his guidance, the Yellow Jackets made three NCAA Tournament appearances and garnered multiple team and individual accolades.

Georgia Tech posted an overall record of 172-64 (.729) during his tenure, including a 96-38 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

In seven seasons, Shymansky led Georgia Tech to the NCAA Sweet 16 (2003), the NCAA Elite 8 (2004), ACC Tournament Championship (2002)

and ACC Regular Season Championship (2003 and 2004). He was named the league's coach of the year in 2004 after guiding the program to a 27-7

overall record and a perfect 16-0 conference campaign. He was also the AVCA East Region Coach of the Year that season as well.

Individually, eight student-athletes have claimed All-America honors under his tutelage and 10 different players have earned a total of 21 All-ACC

selections. A pair of Yellow Jackets were tabbed the ACC Player of the Year during his tenure and four players earned spots on the ACC

All-Freshman Team.

Prior to his arrival at Georgia Tech, Shymansky spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Iowa State and has coached in both the high school

and club ranks. He served as the head coach at Iowa City High School from 1996-97, guiding his squad to the state semifinals in his second season.

A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Shymansky began his volleyball career at the University of Iowa, where he was a member of the men's volleyball

club as a setter and outside hitter from 1991-93. He earned his degree in communications in 1995 from Iowa before completing his master's degree

in secondary English education in 1998.

Shymansky, 36, is married to the former Catherine Cruikshank of Iowa City, Iowa. The couple has a 13-year old daughter, Corrina, and two

sons, Nicholas, 10, and Bond, 2.

 

Kris Russell

Over the course of her coaching career at UW-Whitewater (1981 to 2004), Kris Russell won over eight hundred matches (815-231) for a

winning percentage of nearly eighty percent (.779). While head coach at UW-Whitewater the Warhawks won ten Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic

Conference championships, twelve WIAC postseason tournament titles, and had fifteen NCAA Division III championship tournament berths. That

string of national prominence included five appearances in the final four of the championship, concluding with second-place finishes in 2000 and

2001, and a national title in 2002. Russell was named the WIAC Volleyball Coach of the Year seven times and American Volleyball Coaches

Association National Coach of the Year five times.

 

Marty Petersen

Marty Petersen concluded her coaching career in 2004 at UW-Oshkosh after totaling 630 wins, five WIAC titles and three NCAA Division III final

four appearances. UW-Oshkosh qualified for NCAA Division III postseason play nine times during Petersen's tenure, highlighted by a second-place

finish in 1994 and fourth-place finishes in 1991 and 1996. The Titans also participated in NCAA Division III postseason action in 1990, 1993,

1995, 1998, 2000 and 2001 and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics postseason competition in 1988 and 1989. Petersen was a

four-time Coach of the Year award winner. She was named the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year by Asics in 1994 and 1996 and the WIAC

Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1996.

 

Dave Bayer

Originally from Racine, Dave Bayer played four years of varsity volleyball for Ball State University. He has coached club volleyball for Munciana,

Milwaukee Sting and Sports Performance where his teams have won nine national qualifiers. At the AAU championships, Bayer has produced

one national championship, two runner-up finishes, two third-place finishes and four fifth-place finishes. Bayer was a volunteer assistant coach

at the University of Wisconsin from 2005-2008 and is married to Badgers assistant coach Colleen Bayer. The couple have two boys, Max and

Ben and are expecting their first daughter in April. The Bayer family is well on their way to a volleyball starting six!

 

Brian Schaefer

Brian Schaefer was named the head women's coach at UW-Oshkosh in 2005 and has led the Titans to a 150-26 record. In Schaefer's short time

the Titans have won three WIAC titles (2005, 2006 and 2008) and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament in 2005, 2006, 2007 and

2008. He was named the 2005 and 2008 WIAC and Midwest Region Coach of the Year. Schaefer also has been the UW-Oshkosh men's collegiate

club head since the 2001 season and has amassed a 451-134-5 record. The Titans have won seven consecutive Midwest Ten Conference

titles and a total of seven Wisconsin Volleyball Conference crowns. In 2006 and 2007 UW-Oshkosh won the NCCS Division I national title and

captured second-place in 2005 and 2009.

Directions to the Clinic

From Highway 41 To Kolf Sports Center: Exit at Highway 21 (Exit #119). Take Highway 21 east (Oshkosh Avenue)

to High Avenue (first stoplight after crossing the Fox River). Turn right at High Avenue (one-way street) and then

proceed about one mile to Kolf Sports Center, where parking lots #7 or #13 are located on the right side of

street (one on each side of the sports center). Parking in campus parking lots is free on weekends.
